10 Feng Shui Tips for 2010

Every little bit of shift that you make in your home or office will help assist you in your day to day living. Here are a few tips to get you started:

1. It is most desirable to have a South facing door and if you are lucky enough to have one,

use the door often to bring in the good chi energy to help you each day. Most of us come

home through our garage door, so you do need to pay attention to the front door. Open

the door every so often and check to make sure that the door bell rings and that the area

close to the door area is clean and looks good to those passing by your home.

2. If you are an urban dweller and you don't have mountains surrounding your home, rethink

those tall buildings around you-they are your mountains. They are a form of protection and

when they are close around you, especially behind your home, they hover around you and

protect you each day.

3. Actively flowing water is good Feng Shui and you need to make sure that it does not get

stagnant or it will create a negative energy around you. 2010 is a year that shows the water

element will be missing and it is most beneficial for you to add more around you.

4. Bamboo is a great plant to use in your decor. It can be used in any form and it has all of the

5 elements of Feng Shui built right into the plant.

5. A house that is located in an area where the the water and wind are in constant extreme

motion creates a yang energy. This is not the part of your home to have a bedroom or an

office. The energy shift will be detrimental to sleep or work.

6. If you build your home near a meandering stream or lake, it will benefit all of those who live

in the home. The gentle flowing energy is good for everyone.

7. If you live in the vicinity of a a church that has crosses and spires, it will impact the

neighborhood negatively. The best solution with this is to plant a tree or place a fence

facing it to block this energy. It will just shift the energy back into the church area and

not be harmful to anyone.

8. Bright objects can be an easy office cure to lift and shift the energy in a space. When you

make these small changes, you will be able to see others reacting in a positive way around

you each day.

9. Creating different sounds around you can increase energy or decrease energy. It just

depends on what is happening around you. Is it so noisy that you can't think, soften the

music. Are you falling asleep at your desk, step up the beat of the music!

10. If you would like to have wind chimes around you, listen to different types of chimes. Some

of them are deeper or softer. What kind of sound would work in your space?

I work on my house and office Feng Shui constantly to allow for the ebb and flow of my life and business. These tips will help you focus in a few areas that can get you started in the wonderful world of Feng Shui. Color Tip

Support your wellbeing with color
Author: Diantha Harris

Color healing therapies date back centuries - to the ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, India and others. We are rediscovering and relearning the power of these venerable modalities: that color appears to have the capacity to support healing on all levels of our being, both spirit and flesh, from heartaches to headaches.

I would be remiss if I did not add that in this country I cannot lawfully make claims that color can help us physically, so let me just say that color seems to help support our quest for wellness and is a good helper.

That said, what are some of the ways to use color?

First, always consider consulting a specialist or color therapist for your particular issues. What could seem just a headache might stem from something else, so it is important to consult a professional as well as your regular doctor.

Second, once the color has been selected, bring it into your body:

~ Use colored light therapies (available through a color therapist)
~ Wear clothing of a certain color
~ Be in a room painted a certain color
~ Eat fruits and vegetables of a certain color
~ Wear color therapy glasses
~ Use color breathing techniques
~ Use color meditation techniques
~ Use color sprays

How do you select the right color? If you do not have a color therapist near you, educate yourself about the colors that affect your situation. My website has a lot of information in the section on color sprays, and my book, Simply Color, is chockfull of information on color and how to use it.

Color is effective because it comes to us through the energy system connected to our eyes (color therapy glasses, paints, colored windows, accessories, furnishings, flowers, trees, water), our skin (clothing, color sprays), our stomach (foods we ingest) and our lungs (color breathing, color sprays).

The energy and vibration of each color goes throughout our bodies to the area where it is housed in our bodies (chakras). When we have challenges, the color is drained from our chakras and we need to replenish it. For example, when we feel ungrounded or listless, we have probably used up much of the red color in our bodies or perhaps we are naturally deficient in it. The need for red is met by wearing the color, eating red foods like raspberries, strawberries and red apples or holding a red object in our hands. If red deficient, we could also do red color breathing, wear the red or use the red therapy glasses.

Color is around us always. It is part of our everyday lives. If you can learn about how to use it effectively, you will always have a tool for healing and wellbeing at your fingertips.

Rainbow blessings to all!

ColorTip of the monthTurquoise
by one of my Favorite Color Experts, Diantha Harris

Our color of the month is a tertiary color that combines green (made of blue and yellow) with more blue. There is a strong relationship between turquoise and new communications technology. In fact, turquoise -- heart energy (green) and communication energy (blue) -- is often referred to as the "New Age color" because it has come to represent communication from one to many.

And with this relationship of communication from one to many, turquoise also relates to teachers. So as the doors close on another school year, we offer our gratitude to those who serve in our classrooms and schools.

And let us also mention all the wonderful people on our planet who teach in other ways as well, especially to those working in community for the highest good, who offer selfless service, who relish and share the ability to play and who honor psychic communication.

A big turquoise thank-you to you all!The challenges found in turquoise are feelings of being weighed down by responsibility, being too tied down into routine with no outlet for humor and being driven by fear rather than the good of all.

For more on turquoise and other colors, please take a peek inside the new edition of my book Simply Color by Diantha Harris.

Happy Valentines Day

Color Tip of the month is Red
by Diantha Harris

Did you know that red is a color we gravitate to when we are first born? Red is the first color our eyes can see.Does that mean you should paint a nursery red? Not if you want the baby to sleep.

Red causes a physiological reaction of the release of epinephrine in the brain. This hormone speeds our pulse and heartbeat and raises our body temperature. So although red is a great color to promote excitement, and is easily seen by infants, we wouldn't want to use much of it in any living environment, especially a bedroom. Touches of red can liven your life, but too much can overwhelm. Red represents life force, energy, passion, the will to live and the concepts of sacrifice and courage. Challenged, it can mean anger, frustration, stubbornness and being stuck.

It is a dramatic color when it is a cherry red, but can be more sophisticated as it darkens or becomes muted. Generally speaking, the darker the color, the more sophisticated it becomes, appealing to fewer and fewer people. But it can be a rich, sumptuous color as it deepens, retaining the qualities of the cherry red and adding some of its own, depending on what color(s) are added to deepen it.

For example, if blue is added along with a bit of black, you bring in the qualities of those two colors as well, creating a color of mystery, magic and depth. Red is obviously the color we associate most often with Valentines Day.

How Safe are your Personal & Professional Relationships?

Yvonne Phillips FSII

Feng Shui offers direction and guidance to support your ongoing relationships. We have the opportunity to interact with people every day. However, most people don’t pay close attention to their relationships until there is a crisis. Are you looking around to see how your true relationships are with your clients, family members or significant other?

After time relationships often become passive and you assume that just because you have had a business or personal relationship, it will go on forever. Perhaps you have heard of the law of attraction that states that you attract to you exactly what you have in your life. So for example, your business relationship has always been good with your top customer yet this week another consultant visits your client and insists that, “I can do a much better job and at a Lower Price.” In this economy, is your customer going to be loyal to an established partner or are they going to listen to what this new consultant has to say?

I have worked for many large corporations and believe me if, a company really wants your business they will do everything that they can to get it. They might offer more perks for you and your customers and best of all, lower fees. If you are a university, you could be offered new score boards on your campus or a new dining facility. Now does this get your attention?

When you are proactively engaging in ongoing communication and always looking out for the best interest of your customers, this type of scenario can result in a positive outcome for you. Your customer might mention that he was visited by another consultant who offered him lower fees, new score boards, new dining halls, however, due to your history with the company and relationship as a trusted advisor your business with them isn’t threatened. Over the years you have nurtured the relationship progressively positioning your customer in the market.

I haven’t mentioned the personal relationships, but they too run the same way. We all go day to day to depend on our partners, but when do we give them the respect and the honor that they deserve? Is it saved for Valentine’s Day? How about the other 364 days of the year. I am very fortunate in that I have this type of relationship where my spouse will bring me a cup of tea, just because! He is very consistent with this and happy to do this for me. What do I do for him? I bake him his favorite cookies, his favorite cheesecake for his birthday and I also pay attention to how he walks in the door from work each day. I respond accordingly and if he is down, I try to help bring about a change and a relaxation to his demeanor. The majority of this is done very easily. My home and offices are all Feng Shui compliant. I believe we all deserve peace and calmness around us and when we walk into our home, we just automatically start relaxing our shoulders and shake off the stress of the day. That, my friend, is what a Feng Shui analysis can do for all of you!

Gung Hay Fat Choy-Happy 2009

If you haven't set your intentions or goals for the year, you now have a second chance to do it! Chinese New Years is full of rituals and you should take advantage of them. I had the great opportunity to study with Lillian Too several years ago. She shared with us some of her traditions for this day. Here are a few:

  • Decorate a bowl of nuts, sweets and fruit for everyone.

  • Wear the color red to signify a sunny and bright future.

  • Most important for her was to have an abundance of oranges to "roll" through out her whole house. Yes, she does this every year! So I now too do the same thing bright and I will be doing it on New Years Day, bright and early.

Her Feng Shui philosophy is, if you are going to do Feng Shui, do it big for BIG results. Again, I do the same thing, if my goal is hugh, so are my intentions and my Feng Shui to support all of it. Take a look around your life and figure out what is your most pressing challenge this year. Set the results in motion now with a house and office Feng Shui compliant along with your intentions.

Landscaping with Feng Shui

Feng Shui Landscaping

I see Feng Shui landscape designing, as another way of bringing balance for your personal enhancement. Working with the earth brings the qualities of earth to you. The basic element of earth is healing, regenerative, and without any effort at all, you receive these benefits. It is a way of bringing forth a balance of the yin and yang, light and darkness are balanced by using different elements: water, earth, fire (example: pointy leaves of plants represent this element) rocks, wood element (trees), metals (flower pots, wind chimes or a metal bench to sit and reflect the days events. When you take these elements and use the bagua-the map of Feng Shui, you are able to draw beneficial energy to you and your home.

The compass directions have corresponding colors to help create your balanced landscaping. When you involve the elements and colors of the bagua map, it creates the a good energy-chi and it is carried into your home to help empower you and your family. The balance of inside/outside Feng Shui will give you the extra boost it takes to live your life in harmony and balance. You will also realize that once you create this harmony, more birds, butterflies, praying mantis will arrive on the scene to share and add to this energized area. You will also find this area to be one that attracts the human race to your area.
