Tangerines and oranges are passed out freely during Chinese New Year as the words for tangerine and orange sound like luck and wealth, respectively. And let's not forget pomelos. This large ancestor of the grapefruit signifies abundance, as the Chinese word for pomelo sounds like the word for "to have."
I trained with Grand Master Lillian Too and these are the "secrets" she shared with her students. They are fun and your children will be happy to be a part of this day. Along with the these traditions, I will be sharing what my family does on this day. I started this event when my children were very young, just to give them some fun on a dreary winter day, who would believe that I would get so immersed in this ancient tradition! You too can be a part of this day, if you are unable to attend, I will be glad to send the recording directly to your mail box.
